Walk with YAM

Updated: Apr 5, 2023

YAM is pleased to host the low-impact fellowship activity of a walk around Burke Lake Park, tentatively scheduled for Sunday May 22 at 9:30am. [This event was cancelled for 2022, but we plan to bring it back!] This is not a musical theatre activity. It's just a one-off opportunity to spend time together outside without the pressure or preparation of a performance or rehearsal. You don't even need to sing! This is a group of theatre people looking for an excuse to gather and be active out in nature.

Why a Fellowship Activity?

YAM is working on our season, but it is a slow process to create. Let's not take that to mean we can't enjoy each other's company in the meantime! YAM is dedicated to fostering a positive theatre community in Northern Virginia, and we feel like we can do that outside of rehearsals too!

Why Walking Outside?

Walking is a simple, low impact activity with many benefits. The Mayo Clinic says that walking can help your heart health, your muscles, prevent/manage conditions like diabetes and cancer, your stress levels, your mood, your sleep, and more. Exercise is one of the top suggestions the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) for managing stress and the stress hormone cortisol (which can lead to sleep problems, weight gain, and suppressed immune systems).

YAM has previously run fundraisers for NAMI and for the American Cancer Society (ACS), so walking naturally fits into these two causes, which are very dear to founder Bri and many fellow YAMs.

Want to Join Us?

We would be happy to have you! There is no fee to join us, but non-Fairfax County Residents may have an entrance fee into Burke Lake Park. Please visit the park's website for more information. For us, please RSVP to the public Facebook event on YAM Productions' page to help us plan.

We hope to see you there!
