VIRTUAL AUDITIONS: VHS Christmas Carol

Updated: Sep 24

YAM Productions is pleased to announce auditions for our upcoming production of VHS Christmas Carol with music and lyrics by Clark Baxtresser and originally produced by StarKid Productions. (You can check out their original cast recording on Spotify and a pro-shot of one of their productions in YouTube.) All performers 18+ are welcome to audition. Performances are Decembwr 12-14.

VHS Christmas Carol faithfully tells the famous story of Charles Dickens's A Christmas Carol set in the 1980s London (using American accents). The language is updated to more modern usage and gets a few more jabs in at Ebenezer "the rudest dude you ever knew" Scrooge but maintains the storytelling of the original. Most characters are extremely similar to their Victorian versions.

AUDITIONS

Prepare about 45 to 60 seconds of a musical theatre or pop/rock song in the style of the show but not from the show. Please choose something that you can act, because this show is entirely sung-through. All characters will need to be able to tell the story through song.

Please record a video that shows at least your torso and face while you sing your audition selection with a backing track.

Auditions will not have a dance section.

Use this form to submit your audition video and all required information. Thank you for auditioning!

CALLBACKS

Callbacks are scheduled for 6:30pm to 10pm on Monday, September 29 in Chantilly/Centreville. (This a change from what was previously announced for scheduling purposes.)

Callbacks will consist of dancing and singing of specific material. Those invited to callbacks may only be asked to attend a portion. Callback materials will be shared as they are prepared.

Those who are unavailable for callbacks but still interestes in auditions are invited to reach out!

REHEARSALS

The rehearsal schedule will depend heavily on cast availability, and not everyone will be called to every rehearsal. The venues will be a mix of locations, possibly including a private home. The current plan is as follows:

  • Monday evening (Centreville, Burke, or Springfield)

  • One additional Tuesday/Wednesday/Thursday (Centreville or Springfield)

  • One additional Saturday/Sunday during the morning or afternoon (Centreville or Chantilly)

Please be thorough in your conflicts to help us develop a schedule that works for our team.

Our performance venue is Cale (Greenbriar) Community Center. All performances and tech rehearsals will take place there. As this is a community center and not a rigged theatre, we will set up the space for our needs when we arrive.
